THEATRE ARTS DEPARTMENT
The Citrus College Theatre Arts Department offers a creative learning
program aimed at developing acting, directing and technical skills
necessary for transfer to a four-year university or to a professional
training school. In addition, classes for personal enrichment are
available.
PROGRAM CONTENT
The Theatre Arts Department's emphasis is in acting, directing,
and technical theatre. You will receive training in character
development, rehearsal technique, monologue and scene study, audition
preparation, voice and movement, stage direction, script analysis
and technical theatre. The Citrus College Little Theatre offers
an intimate venue for developing and practicing your skills before
live audiences.
The Theatre Arts Department produces two full-length main stage
productions a year, one full-length student directed/designed
production as well as a holiday show, Shakespeare in Production
and the popular Citrus Theatre Academy in the summer. Citrus
Theatre has a strong involvement with the American
College Theatre Festival with several students
having competed for the Irene Ryan Acting Award. Citrus has also
presented selected scenes for the Invitational Scene Event. Our
2005 production of "La Lista Negra" traveled to the
Regional festival in Cedar City, Utah as a participating production.
Ultimately, it was honored as fifth in the nation out of hundreds
of productions seen that year. At Festival 2010 in St. George,
Utah, Citrus student, Jeremy Lewis, won the SDC Student Directing
Fellowship Award and will be representing Region
VIII at the National
Festival this April.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Individuals seeking careers in theater and other related areas of
the entertainment industry should possess a strong sense of discipline
and exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to further developing their
skills. As an actor, you should be able to apply things you observe
and experience in your daily life to the characters you play. You
may choose to pursue an acting career in theatre, television or film.
Or you may decide to work behind the camera or on the stage as a
director or producer where your knowledge of acting and technical
theatre will benefit you greatly. Opportunities are also available
in academic and children's theatre.
The Theater Arts Department falls under the umbrella of the Fine
and Performing Arts major. Students can take a variety of classes
that meet graduation requirements and fulfill prerequisites to the
UC and CSU systems as well as professional schools. If you plan to
transfer, check with Counseling and Advisement Center to determine
how our courses articulate with university entrance and transfer
requirements. |
